The Disco Retreat Pt. 2

Part 1          Part 2          Part 3

I was lucky to discover BackToDisco in the beginning. I was at home doing nothing, on my confuser searching for music. I was already a Live365 member when I came accross this awesome DISCO music station. As I listened I found the link to BackToDisco.com. I got on the message board and found my youth. J*V welcomed me and we started talking about The Ranch Party. I was the first DJ to respond. Thanks Johnny for everything you've created for all of us. I have had the privilage of meeting and playing with all of the greatest DJ's of the 70's and 80's. I have been blessed with so many new and best friends and family because of BTD.

John, My Brother, My Best Friend.
George, My Brother, Two of a kind.
Richard, My Brother, You are the truest of friends.
Johnny, Mi Hermano, Gracias por todo.
Al, My Lil Bro, Keep me laughing.
Gilbert, Looking forward to a life long friendship.

Hey George, just got turned on to the BTD website yesterday by

an old discolero friend and roady of yesteryear (Rodrigo &

Horacio(RIP)Robles of Fonastique Musique) SGV circa 1977-1982

who I ran into at the Montebello Town Center while taking my kids post Christmas shopping and I myself looking for a pair of crayon

shoes to wear for New Years eve.  He runs with Robert Torres these days and is promoting the New Years eve at Peppers, ok ok

Camachos.  To put it mildly I was blown away and was a great trip down memory lane til 1:30AM this morning with my wife of 25

ears & three teenage kids of the five we have, who by the way are not allowed to mention to two letter "D" word, aka DJ. It was

great to see some old familiar faces  and party flyers on the site.

Well I don't know how active you are in the BTD Club Scene but

I am looking forward to attending an event really soon.  Just

wished there was an event this weekend to celebrate my Birthday which is tomorrow, a pre-New Years sort of thing.  It was also

great to read your Gino's I/II story , which is what inspired me to

write you this email to begin with, I to was a great fan of the unique music and dance scene that came out of Gino's weekend and week

out and It almost made the "hollyweird" ridicule and attire acceptable in the Hispanic & conservative culture of the San Gabriel Valley in

Gaston

(Sorry, lost the rest of the story, Maybe Gaston could finish it?)

Hey guy's, after reading that thread below about original promoters,

just wanted to let you know to keep it going!! What's up with that

dude?

You guys have put together, what most promoters who are still

around today, have tried to do for the last 20 years and that's to get the original disco scene from the late 70's and early 80's together. I think the only one that got close to doing this was Robert Torres with his Flashback parties at the Whittier Hilton about 7 years ago.

After spinning for most of the current club promoters, they've all tried

to what you guys have accomplished. What's a trip is that you do

have all the original names, DJ's and promoters who started the whole thing attending these gigs. I've been spinning since 83 and I know

who all the OG's are, and just to even be placed on the same flyer

was an honor. All you guys and girls are like royalty. I've been to a

few BTD parties and I'm not sure what the writer of the thread below was talking about. How much more original can you get than DJ's and promoters such as Infinity, Martin from Circus, Domingo, Danny Poison, Danny Debonair, Vinde Champaine, Constant Force, Face to Face, Richard Soto, Victor Aleman, Cirkis, etc... some of these guys

I never knew, but always knew the name and faces. Even the

Teddyboy thing, they all showed up which was pretty cool.

Just giving my two cents. Keep up the good work and continue with

the reunions. I don't always remember the promoters, just the memory

of being there and the people we met. Ciao!

LAST NIGHT WAS SO INCREDIBLE THAT I STILL AM SHOCKED. I SAW A POSTER IN THE VALLEY OFFRAMP OFF THE LONG BEACH FREEWAY THAT SAYS 70S & 80S DISCO SO I TOOK MY WIFE AND HER FRIENDS. I WAS EXPECTING SOME YOUNG EMINEM LOOKING KIDS PLAYING THE BEE GEES, KC AND SUNSHINE BAND, DONNA SUMMERS WITH THE MAINSTREAM 80S LIKE LIVING ON VIDEO CRAZY OVER YOU AND YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. FIRST WE ROLLED TO THE PATIO AND THIS GUY WAS PLAYING I FEEL LOVE, THE CHASE AND LOVE IS IN YOU ON THE
BEST MIXING I HAVE HEARD IN A WHILE. THEN WE WENT UPSTAIRS AND SAW THE HUSTLERS AS YOU GUYS CALL THEM BUT I STARTED PAYING ATTENTION TO THE MUSIC AND I HONESTLY COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I STARTED RECOGNIZING FACES. AND I SAW THE FLYER AND I KNEW I WAS RIGHT, IT WAS JOHN GUZMAN FACE TO FACE AND WENT TO THE PATIO AND IT SURE WAS KARLOS MONGALO SO I GO BACK UP AND SEARCH THROUGH THE CROWD. I SPOKE WITH JOHNNY AND HE TOOK ME TO MOST OF THE PEOPLE LIKE JERRY INFINITY WHO GAVE ME A CD AND LISTENED TO IT ON THE WAY HOME UP TO ITS A WAR. I RECOGNIZED
VALENTINO AND PIERRE, LITTLE EDDIE, RICHARD SOTO, STEVE BELTRAN, MY BUDDY SLOW JOE AND HE TOLD ME OF OTHERS THAT ALSO HANG AROUND. THEN GEORGE FLASHBACK PLAYED IM OK YOUR OK, LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME, MUSIC MAN, AND SO MANY MORE. I JUST SAT AND LISTENED. I REALLY COULDNT BELIEVE IT. AND THE GUY IN THE PATIO
WHO PLAYED GOT GOT MONEY, MUSIC TAKES ME HIGHER, SENTIMENTALLY ITS YOU, SAVAGE LOVER, HE WAS REALLY GOOD. I JUST SPENT 1 HOUR CRUISING THE WEBSITE AND WILL DO IT FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. SOMETHING THAT ALSO IMPRESSED ME WAS THE WAY PEOPLE WERE DANCING GINO'S, THE COPACABANA, MARILYNS, CIRCUS STYLE AND OTHER PEOPLE REALLY ENJOYING THEIR DANCING AND NOT LIKE ANYWHERE ELSE WHERE PEOPLE SAY "LOOK AT THAT GUY, WHAT STYLE IS THAT" .I GOT UP AND BROKE OUT A FEW STEPS MYSELF AND EVEN MY WIFE HAD NOT SEEN ME MAKE THOSE MOVES. THE ATMOSPHERE AND ENERGY, YOU CAN JUST FEEL THEM AND FEED OFF THEM. JUST TOTALLY INCREDIBLE. IS THERE A PARTY BEFORE THE SPY ROOM ON LABOR DAY?

Last year St. Joe's was in a huge financial deficit. Do you remember?? The retreat center helps many underprivileged children.
Well, Mr. Master Mind Richard Soto invited BTD to help throw a Disco Fundraiser. I couldn't believe how many BTD people
showed up to the first Fundraising meeting. It looked like a "DISCO SUMMIT at the U.N."
There were at least 20+ BTD people there to help.
I remember faces like Deanne, George, Sally & Nina, Johnny, Liquid Al, Rick & Sandy,.....and
Oh my God !!!John Guzman (lightning crashes).
I remember feeling immense gratitude ..
"These people have nothing to do with the St. Joe's yet they are here to help"

I knew at that moment that BTD was a good blessing in disguise.

So, from BTD... LOVE has found it's way, the BTD Fundraiser raised 16k to help the kids.
As I shared w/George & Deanne...

"The universe delivers prosperity & abundance to good people with good intentions."

ON BEHALF of GOD Almighty ...
Thank YOU BTD!! for helping my children

God Bless BTD..after all He is the MIX-MASTER
